It began
with a short newspaper report in the "Elmshorner Nachrichten"
in january 1971:
"Meeting for
friends of functional building in the railway-station restaurant"
Three weeks later, on
23th february 1971, the "Elmshorner-Modellbau-Club" became
founded under the management of chairman Rolf Wichmann and Werner
Plickert. 16 modell builder came to the foundation assembly. The
registration of the club by the district court happened one year
later at 17th april 1972. The club growth slowly but constantly.
Today we count 70 members. In our youth group are 23 members and
we have 41 active model pilots.
As founder member and
chairman of the "EMC" Rolf Wichmann guided the club from
1971 to 1977.
From 1977 to 1989 Peter Korff took over the position of the chairman
until Rolf Wichmann guided the club further to 1995. The cairman
today is Ulrich Grube, the long term assistant chairman.
The model flier part
of the club moved around some years from meadow to meadow. In 1973
we were able to use our airfield in Kurzenmoor. In support of the
community of Kurzenmoor we have now a certificated model airfield.
Here we can fly undisturbed our prevailing glider and electric powered
aircrafts.
The foundation of our
youth group happened in 1972. It is approved as deserving promotion
by the youth welfare office of Schleswig-Holstein.
Today we practise an
intensive youth work. We offer assistance and teaching in all kind
of model building including model flying lessons. So the first flights
of a new model will not end in a desaster.
The
model ship builder have the possibility to sail their models on the
Steindammwiesen lake, an 8000 square meter lake in the center of Elmshorn.
The use of the lake is agreed by contract between the EMC and the
city council of Elmshorn.
